About Me

I'm Hazel, the Hands Off Parent and I’m here to help you become the best parent you can be. I have over twenty years’ experience working with children and families and I would love to share what I have learnt with you.

I trained as a Montessori teacher before I began my travels in 2002; working at preschools in the UK and Australia, and as a professional nanny for families from all over the world. On my return to Ireland I continued my education, graduating in 2017 with a Post Grad in Early Childhood Care and Education from Trinity College, Dublin. Throughout my career I have striven for best practice with every family I have worked with, and in every school, I have taught at. I believe this comes from nurturing children in an environment where they feel safe and loved - not with the use of bribes, quick fixes or parenting hacks. Over the years I have observed how children respond so positively to these methods. It is truly rewarding to watch how children blossom when treated as capable, competent beings.

In 2017 my daughter Rose was born, and in 2020 her brother, Laurie joined the family. As a working mother I try to strike the right balance between my professional career and my role as a parent. I will be the first to admit that sometimes I fail in my attempts but with every mistake made, a lesson is learned.

My aim as the Hands-Off Parent is to send out a positive message about parenting. Before having children, I had heard and read so many negative tales of motherhood and parenting. Yes, it is hard work, yes, your life will never be the same again, but it is also wonderful, magical and rewarding. I never believed being a mammy would be as enjoyable as I have found it to be. I feel so lucky to spend my days with my children. Parenting is absolutely a challenge but one that I welcome wholeheartedly, and one that I believe I can help you enjoy too.
